Saffron Rose Srikhand/Indian Style Saffron Rose Greek Yogurt

e Indians love our spices as well as sweets. Festivals, celebrations or any happy occasion for that matter is definitely accompanied with sweets or as we call them, 'mithais'. There is mushrooming of mithai shops and local halwais on every nook and corner wherever you go. There is usually such a variety of sweets that it is difficult to decide what you want to eat. It is said that culture in India changes every hundred miles. With culture comes its food. Every region has its own sweet specialties and varieties so you can imagine how vast and expansive the world of Indian sweets can get.

Kathal (Jackfruit) Biryani

If you have been following my posts recently you are probably familiar with my kathal (jack fruit) adventure. So as promised, here is my second dish in the kathal series.
This dish also was very timely as my brother was visiting for Raksha Bandhan and he is a die hard fan of chicken biryani. So I had to make that for him (will post the chicken biryani sometime soon). Being vegetarians, I couldn't leave us, specially dear hubby, biryani deprived... and I took it as a challenge to make something as good, if not better. Jack fruit biryani seemed the most logical choice. Followed my mom's recipe for chicken biryani just replacing the chicken with jack fruit and it turned out great. Both hubby and bro were happy and I got to use some of my huge pile of jackfruit, win win :).This recipe is simple and easy yet incredibly delicious.
Here's how I do it.

Nutella Brownies

If you've read some of my previous posts you'll know I love nutella :)) and it is also not a secret that I am chocoholic. I just can't have enough of this yummillicious spread. My hubby sometimes teases me that nutella should be my middle name he he. In fact as I am writing this, another nutella recipe is coming to my mind :D I can't help myself as I always think nutella is, quite frankly, one of the best culinary creations out there — a mixture of chocolate and hazelnuts that almost defies words... too good! Well, I love brownies too. The dense fudgy squares are just irresistible. So one day I decided to attempt to incorporate one of Earth's best chocolaty spreads into brownies. And these are eggless and I used no butter and very little sugar.. is very easy to make and it consists of my most fav things nutella, dark chocolate and coffee mmmm... can't write anymore... here goes the recipe -

Achari aloo

This was one of the very first dishes I made for my dear hubby after we got married and I came to the US. He had called a few friends over for dinner and I set everything up on the table (achari aloo, puri, fried rice, malai kofta, raita and kheer... amazing how I still remember). He looked very happy and was mighty impressed, loved it.. so it will always be something very special :) He especially asked me make this achari aloo often.
Achari aloo is basically a tangy and spicy dry potato curry flavored with traditional indian pickle masalas. I love the fennel and achari flavor in this dish. It is also always hit with guests, great for potlucks and picnics too, as it tastes great both hot and cold. Goes with almost anything but we like it best with pooris... mmmm! This is ridiculously easy to make and super fast. I make it with tiny whole red potatoes. Traditionally the recipes calls for deep frying but I skip that to make it healthier so it can be eaten on a regular basis.
So here goes my version.
